Feature Races

Group 3 Cambridge Stud Northland Breeders Stakes
This Group 3 race attracts the very earliest of three year old sprinters and has proven itself to be a great pointer to the future quality of the winner. The last time the race was run at Ruakaka (2019) the very smart Catalyst, trained by Clayton Chipperfield and ridden by Troy Harris was a decisive winner. The honour roll of winners includes the very good fillies in Melt and Prom Queen and colts that are now showing their class as stallions -Vespa, El Roca and Sacred Falls.
Ruakaka Cup
Surprisingly the Ruakaka Cup is a recent addition to the Club's annual programme. Over 2200 metres the race has only been run since 2018 when the winner was He's Cavalier and in 2019 the quality local campaigner Kaharau was successful. The race was not run in 2020 due to the Covid restrictions during the winter.
DUNSTAN ACCUMULATOR
Trainers- win a tonne of Dunstan Horsfeed
The Group 3 1200m, Open 2200m and 1400m, and Rating 74 1600m are qualifying races for the Dunstan Accumulator. This series of races across the four meetings in July and August earns points for the trainer in a competition for a tonne of Dunstan Horsefeed of their choice. Each of a trainer's horses that competes in these races earns points based on the winner receiving 12 points; second 9; third 6, fourth 3 and every other runner 2 points. The winning trainer after the fourteen races will receive a tonne of Dunstan Horsefeed.

The day is a must attend for the locals and the quality of the racing will attract many racing fans from across Northland.
