Smart casual recommended — please dress for the weather conditions.

Transport & Parking

Free parking is available on course.

FREE return raceday buses will operate from Whangārei, with pick-up times confirmed once race times are finalised.

Current pick-up points include:

  • Kamo Club
  • Kamo Hotel
  • Kensington Tavern
  • Rose Street Bus Terminal
  • Judge House of Ale

Additional pick-up points may be available for larger groups — contact the club office to arrange.

Food, Drinks & Facilities

Bars, TAB betting, Bayview Cafés and the Bean on the Scene coffee cart will be operating from approximately 11.30am.

Choose your raceday experience:

  • Relax on the hill
  • Enjoy shaded grandstand seating
  • Watch the racing from one of the public areas

EFTPOS is available TAB betting windows and selected bars.
Please note there are no credit card facilities on course.

Ruakaka Racecourse is a strictly NO BYO Alcohol venue.

The ultimate Northland showdown returns with the 2026 Lion Red Pubs and Clubs Challenge at Ruakaka Races on Wednesday, 2 September.

After last year's massive sell-out with a full quota of 20 teams competing from all over the region, the rivalry is officially back. Defending champions Kamo Club currently hold the prestigious trophy, but the slate is wiped clean for a fresh day of thrilling racing, great banter, and Lion Red merch. Gather your crew, represent your local, and get ready to claim the bragging rights.
