ITM/GIB Whangarei Gold Cup Meeting Features First Winner At Home Track For Samantha Logan.

In winning the ITM Bay Of Islands – Waipapa rating 65 race over 2100 metres Poker Queen provided Sam Logan her first winner at Ruakaka. To make it even more special was that the horse was bred by her late father and races in the ownership of the Estate of the late Dean Logan. Dean was a major force in the development of the racecourse and the success of Logan Racing over many years.

The race meeting was almost a phantom meeting with the Level 2 Covid restrictions preventing the general public from being invited and only two hundred pre-registered guests permitted entry.

The racing was on an excellent surface that provided a little give under-hoof that many horses were looking for, although the strong head-wind in the straight slowed the overall race times. That said the time of 1.10.50 by New York Jazz for the Harcourts Tai Tokerau Trophy was very smart.

The Stephen Ralph trained New York Jazz will follow a similar path to the Railway Stakes at Ellerslie as did Ralph’s previous winner, Santa Monica, after winning an open 1200 metres race in 1.10.36 at Ruakaka back on 15 September 2018.

NEXT RACE MEETING – THURSDAY JANUARY 7TH

The Club does not race again until January 7th when the traditional summer meeting featuring a fun day of activities for the kids will be held.
