The track has responded in great fashion with the rain and warm ground temperatures. The photo shows the track at the wide, cambered 800m turn now that we have removed the separation of the two tracks. Update: The inside track has previously only been used for training but has now developed well enough to consider incorporation as a single track which we will do for training and trialling. Just over 60 horses in training under level 2 restrictions meaning owners or any visitors can’t attend the track. The Club has no race meetings this winter, so nine of the 2020 meetings have been deleted. NZTR/RITA are finalising the race meetings for the 2020/21 season that commences on 1 August. It is expected that will be released at the end of June. In the draft being circulated the Club will race in 2021 on Thursday January7, Wednesday April 14 and May 5, and Saturdays June 19, July 3 and 17. The Club will make a submission seeking an opportunity to race late spring/early summer this year; and make it itself available as a “back-up” course, If funded appropriately. The Club is keen to conduct trials but that requires NZTR approval. The Select Committee for the Racing Industry Bill is due to release their report on Monday 8 June 2020. RITA that currently controls the Trackside and TAB businesses has made very significant changes to the way they do business with the strong possibility that betting on the racecourses will be on self-serve machines or by phone through a betting account. The change will require a very major re-design of racecourses that were built with a total focus on betting windows!
